The Senior Technical Writer will implement customer documentation for hardware and software products. Work closely with product development teams to research and understand technical information about the product to write customer documentation for the appropriate audience. The Senior Technical Writer will coordinate documentation plans and document outlines; defining audience, determining task list, identifying technical information requirements. Work with outside translation providers to coordinate translated documents. Discover and drive innovative Tech Communication initiatives, which may include assessing strategies for intelligent content, content management, and translations. The Senior Technical Writer will develop mechanisms for monitoring delivery of documents to ensure they are on time and on budget

This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Homes and Global Distribution team at Honeywell! Homes and Global Distribution is a leader in the home heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls and security markets, and a leading global distributor of security and fire protection products. In 2018, Honeywell will be spinning off the Homes and Global Distribution business into a stand-alone, publicly traded company. Being a stand-alone company will provide the business the independence, focus, direct financial resources, and flexibility required to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics, and we want you to be part of its evolution.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Interface with Engineering, Technical Support, Quality, Project Management and Agency groups to obtain technical information and become familiar with product features/operation and program schedules.
  • Work closely with Technical Illustrators to develop installation and operating illustrations, electrical wiring diagrams and product labels.
  • Create clear and concise customer documentation including, but not limited to, Installation and Setup Guides, End User Manuals, Technical Notifications, Cartons & Packaging used by technical professionals and homeowners.
  • Prepare documentation release, using Oracle – Agile Product Lifecycle Management program.
  • Support Marketing Department by reviewing other technical documentation (i.e.; specifications and marketing documentation) as required.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled team status meetings.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and adhere to strict project deadlines.

YOU MUST HAVE
  • High School Diploma or GED
WE VALUE
  • Experience in the security, video, home automation, or access control industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Proficiency with Agile Product Lifecycle Management program
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience working with Adobe Frame Maker, Acrobat, Illustrator and more
  • Familiarity with topic-based authoring, structured content, DITA publishing
  • Excellent team and communication skills
  • An ability to take initiative and work with limited direction
  • An ability to influence across a broader organization
