Honeywell Sr Counsel, Labor & Employment (Homes) in Golden Valley, Minnesota

Sr Counsel, Labor & Employment (Homes)

Join a team recognized for leadership, innovation and diversity

This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Homes and Global Distribution team at Honeywell! Homes and Global Distribution is a leader in the home heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls and security markets, and a leading global distributor of security and fire protection products.

In 2018, Honeywell will be spinning off the Homes and Global Distribution business into a stand-alone, publicly traded company. Being a stand-alone company will provide the business the independence, focus, direct financial resources, and flexibility required to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics, and we want you to be part of its evolution.

This position reports directly to the Homes Chief Labor, Employment & Benefits Attorney and will have responsibility for supporting labor and employment matters across the United States and Canada. This position will be located at the Homes site in Golden Valley, MN.

Job Description:

The position will serve as in-house employment lawyer and primary point of contact for Homes human resources generalists in the U.S. and Canada. The job will involve strategic and day-to-day employment law counseling, policy alignment, interpretation and implementation, as well as litigation management and litigation avoidance. This is more of a counseling role than a direct litigation role, although this attorney will play a substantial role in the interesting aspects of litigation such as overall case direction and strategy and review of motions. This position will be responsible for monitoring changes in national, state and local laws, and ensuring that the company remains in compliance. Traditional labor law, including CBA interpretation, grievance and arbitration work and union avoidance, is also part of this job.

Attorneys at Homes need to know the business and understand the business issues, in addition to the legal landscape and risks. We are looking for people who can work independently and as part of a business unit, as well as the law department. Attorneys need to make practical recommendations, rather than offering just "on the one hand, on the other hand" analysis. Answers and advice must be given in real time and with practical effect; this is not a research and memo-writing position. The position requires the ability to work in a global, and heavily matrixed organization.

This position will feature a great deal of autonomy.
