Join the Materials Engineering team within the Product Support Engineering organization. You will provide technical management, vision, and strategy for a group of material engineers and technical lab personnel responsible for selection, use and testing of metals, non-metals and electronic parts in space products. You will be responsible for interfacing with site design engineers, production engineers, suppliers, and customers to identify materials engineering needs and coordinate support on critical space products. The leader will guide the development of employees using HPD goals, coaching, performance management and proactive emphasis on learning through the completion of work performed. Additional responsibilities include leading their team in compliance to applicable safety and quality requirements, providing work flow oversight and directing the purchase and effective application of laboratory capital within the team.

Manage a team of material engineers and lab personnel on day to day activities

Manage/lead projects across multiple sites including budgets, milestones and planning

Manage a capital budget to ensure lab equipment is maintained and evaluate equipment needs based on future business

Work with product stakeholders to develop program plans, support milestones and ensure material activities are planned for and supported

Lead/coordinate metallurgical analysis and component investigations on Honeywell Aerospace Glendale products and components, including root cause investigations involving materials and process issues

Manage vendor questions on raw material and processing questions

Lead, develop and motivate a diverse team of design and applications engineers, lab engineers, and lab technicians; deliver employee performance reviews and mentoring of newer engineers

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years in Materials engineering including experience with material specifications, metallic and non-metallic materials and processes, experience performing aerospace mechanical component failure analysis including metallurgical analysis with considerable hands-on activity

WE VALUE

  • Some experience in space industry
  • Some experience working with outside customers including supporting compliance reviews, technical exchange meetings and root cause investigations
  • Some experience with Honeywell tools including Material Lists (MIULs), the Material Code Index, APSL, ECT, AET and ESM tools.
  • Some experience running lab equipment including destructive physical analysis as well as non-destructive evaluation techniques, SEM, FTIR, X-Ray, etc.
  • Some experience managing projects including budgets, setting milestones and coordinating personnel support
  • Good people skills and ability to work effectively with other organizations and individuals at all levels from aides to middle management
  • Some demonstrated leadership experience in coordinating and overseeing entry-level to senior-level professionals
  • Proven track of leading teams to successful project delivery
  • Track record of improving team performance and work practice through team coaching
  • Competence to convey subtle or complex messages clearly, as appropriate for the topic and audience
  • Ability to consistently make timely decisions and balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness, even in the face of complexity
  • Solid knowledge of aerospace electro-mechanical products and their material systems, as well as knowledge of special processes (circuit board assembly, heat treatment, plating, welding, electrical interfaces, etc.)
  • Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done
  • Written and Oral/Presentation skills with previous experience presenting to customers
