As an integral part of Honeywell Aerospace’s global Engineering and Technology (E&T) team, we are the world-class aerospace engineering team established as part of Honeywell Technology Solutions (HTS) China, one of three Honeywell global R&D centers located in China and dedicated to serving the rapidly growing China market. Our team provides world-class engineering and R&D capabilities to support Honeywell Aerospace growth including working with leading organizations like COMAC, AVIC, CETC and CAAC to support the rapid growth of the Chinese commercial aerospace industry. Our local engineering team also supports key global programs for Airbus, Boeing, Dassault, Embraer, and Gulfstream.

The HTS China Software Center of Excellence (SWCOE) is looking for a Technical Manager to lead a team of engineers in the SWCOE to execute (technical, cost & schedule) of the share of projects, work packages, and tasks assigned, and to build a highly effective and efficient team. This team is and will be involved in the design and development of software architecture, software development process, software operating system, design and modeling techniques, and verification tools on real-time avionic systems.

Responsibilities of this position including, but not limited to:

  1. Program Execution
  2. Project proposal and plan discussion with global counterpart; Determine project team size and work share in aligning with capability development plan of China team; Project scope and schedule planning with China team and global counterpart; Responsible for resource staffing and allocation, scheduling/budget issues, troubleshooting system problems, and IP protection; Assign the qualified team lead to manage day to day work and track the outcome with metrics, and drive for continuous improvement and excellence of project execution; work closely with the finance team in ensuring timely billings of efforts.

Monitor project implementation and control the cost, milestones, and quality with risk prediction; Responsible for team resources recruiting which will be aligned with global resource plan and China Annual Operation Plan. Responsible for providing upper management team with timely reports and supporting analysis of project progress.

  5. Understand business growth opportunities in China and set strategic direction along with HTS China and Global leaders; build up China core team and manage growth of entire project team's capabilities systematically.
  6. Provide direction to the group in career and skills development areas, responsible for developing engineering talent in these areas and staffing programs effectively, and manage training, mentoring, and on-the-job placement of the team.
  7. Ensure communication of China team's performance, capability and growth. Continuously monitor and search for potential project opportunities by knowing well the areas that demand growth and what China team is able to deliver.
  8. Employee Management including Bi-Annual employee reviews, and support of Management Resource Readiness (MRR) and Technical Resource Readiness (TRR) assessments of individuals and group.
  9. Differentiate people interest by management, technical expert, and project engineering career path and align with employees’ career interest and development plan.
  10. Drive development of the team with result oriented mindset and desirable Honeywell behaviors.

Skills/Qualifications:

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • 10 years’ experience in software architecture, design and development with 5 years in engineering team management and leadership
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong leadership and conflict management skills in a global team environment
  • Working knowledge of software product line development
  • Project management skills
  • Strong passion to work in the aerospace industry

Additional qualifications desirable:

  • Knowledgeable of RTCA DO-178B/C Certification, design and development tools
  • CMMi process experience
  • Familiar with certification and oversight requirements
  • Previous experience with avionics products and application software development
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certified
  • Detailed understanding of advanced Verification & Validation processes, tools, and capabilities
  • Previous experience with avionics products and application software development
  • Experience in developing real-time avionics
  • Experience and knowledge of RTOS (Deos™, VxWorks, or Linux, etc.).
  • Cyber security experience in avionics networks
  • Experience of design and modeling techniques, languages and tools (i.e. Structured Analysis and Design, Object-Based Analysis and Design, UML/SysML, Rose/Rhapsody/EA)
  • Apple iOS and Android Apps development experience is a plus
